Molly's Momma's Cheese Sausage Balls

Molly calls this the appetizer that keeps people coming back time and time again — the one her family gets begged to bring to every gathering. Hot sausage, sharp cheddar, and fresh jalapeño rolled into bite-size balls. So good and so incredibly easy.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb bulk hot sausage, broken up (like Owens or Jimmy Dean)
  • 11 oz sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 jalapeño peppers — squeeze the juice and mix in
  • 2½ cups Bisquick mix

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients and chill 1 hour before baking.
  2. Roll into small balls. Makes approximately 12 dozen.
  3. Bake at 325°F for 25 minutes.

Molly's Tips

She likes hers a little spicy and tangier, so she pours in some of the jalapeño brine. And really, can you have too much cheese? She typically uses a whole 16 oz bag. Last tip: bake on a pan lined with parchment paper for easy removal.
