3-2-1 Sausage Cheese Balls
Share
Carol Hunt sent this one in, and the name tells you everything you need to know. Three cups of cheese, two cups of Bisquick, one roll of hot sausage. C'est tout.
Her family has been making these for as long as she can remember. The recipe is so simple that nobody has to look it up, and even the children can remember how to make them. She taught her kids when they were young and has since taught her grandkids. They show up at least at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and the kids and grands always ask if they can help. In the photo, her daughter is making a batch with her new husband, teaching him so they can carry the tradition forward. She probably started making them herself when she was about three years old.
They make at least three batches at a time, so there are plenty to eat, plenty to share, and some for the freezer. They are a staple at the Hunt house on Christmas morning.
Ingredients
- 3 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 cups Bisquick
- 1 roll hot Jimmy Dean bulk sausage
Instructions
- Thoroughly combine the cheese and the raw sausage.
- Slowly mix in all of the Bisquick until a dough forms and everything is incorporated.
- Roll into 1 inch to 1 1/2 inch balls and place on baking sheets lined with parchment paper or baking mats. Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown.
Notes
This is easier in a stand mixer with a dough hook, but it can be done by hand. It just takes time.
If you are making a batch to freeze or reheat later, cook them a few minutes less, to a light brown, so they reach that golden color when they are reheated.
Good for breakfast, as a snack, or as an appetizer.
